Luca Vignelli
Luca Vignelli photographs people, places and things. Since opening his studio in New York City in 1986, he has shot portraiture, interiors, landscapes, and still lifes for editorial and commercial advertising use, and longer term projects such as photo essays, books, and film documentaries.
Luca Vignelli has been commissioned by some of the world’s most prominent architects to do their portraits, among whom are Philip Johnson, I.M. Pei, Richard Meier, Charles Gwathmey and Robert Siegel, Richard Rogers, Santiago Calatrava, Daniel Libeskind, and the partnerships of Kohn Pederson Fox. He has travelled the world to make photographic portraits on location of over one hundred of the world’s most important architects, a body of work that is represented by the Esto Photographics agency and due to be published in a book entitled Faces of Contemporary Architecture.
Among Mr. Vignelli’s latest projects is Sapori di Campania, an almost encyclopedic photographic portrait of the finest chefs of southern Italy’s Campania region, their restaurants, and the region’s gastronomic treasures. Mr. Vignelli apprenticed with the master black and white printer “Ciccio” Ivan Dalla Tana in his studio at P.S.1. During the work-study program at Bennington College, Mr. Vignelli assisted Henry Wolf. Mr. Vignelli then went on to complete his professional education at The Art Center College Of Design in Pasadena, California.
