Light and Glass Laura Diaz de Santillana  1955–

I’ve always been entranced by the mystery of objects that reveal themselves by accident. I like things that seem impenetrable at first, only revealing themselves when you try to look at them in a different way. Glass is like a colored veil with a structure inside of it, a structure that holds it together. I am always trying to get to the center of a piece by peeling off what is not essential. Even though I use a wide range of techniques, my focus is always on purity and economy. The examples in this exhibition have a sculptural quality, but they are also two-dimensional, like paintings. Yet, to me they have more substance than paintings. The shape is the simplest of shapes; it is strong and extremely concentrated.
